Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza meal RIP.

Nov 13, 2008 @ 10:19 am by Administrator

We went out for some pizza last night and got to find out they finaly killed off the personal pan pizza meal.  It was a great offer, a personal pan pizza, breadsticks/salad, and a soda.  It doesn’t suprise me though, when getting the individual componets is much more expensive.

Ubuntu 8.10 impressions.

I’m by no means a power linux user anymore, I just don’t use it that much but I thought I’d give 8.10 a spin for giggles in my vm.

Good thing I did it in a vm, the upgrade process didn’t go smoothly at all. I ended up having to force the update manager to install some packages so it could get the rest or something crazy.

My webcam still doesn’t work. But this might be because of how the vm handles USB instead of just linux being stupid.

Other than that, I really don’t see a point in upgrading to 8.10. There’s probably a whole lot under the hood I didn’t notice, but 8.04 seems to be a fine and stable platform.

Fios fun.

Just because I was bored I thought I’d see if I could get FIOS service. Well, the stupid app can’t find my goddamn address. So I guess that’s a no.

Airport security is a sham.

Make, gcc, libc etc…. why not include them by default.

Sep 22, 2008 @ 09:40 am by Administrator

One thing that has always bothered me about linux, debian specificaly, is that make and all those things aren’t installed by default. They’re kinda needed to do stuff! The only reason they’re not included that I can think of is that with apt you, theoreticaly don’t need them. It still bugs me though when I’ve got a fresh install and go to compile something and make isn’t anywhere to be found.

I hate the view, but this is funny.

Whoopi wants it fixed.

Ubuntu server under Vmware.

Sep 13, 2008 @ 04:28 pm by Administrator

Fan freaking tastic.  This is probably something I won’t be doing again anytime soon.  I will eventually need to replace the OS on this server because it’s old and crufty, but I’d like to switch it over to ubuntu.  So I’d thought I get it all setup under vmware, then just dd or something the data over to the hardware when the time comes.
Windows firewall blocks samba and nfs from vmware….. great.  And now that I finaly have smb working the old server keeps crapping out on me.  Not sure if it’s a version thing of if the old server just can’t keep up.

Shoutcast changed stuff.

They redid shoutcast.com. Now there’s not “alternative” genre. I can only find pop rock in the rock section. I am sad.

Well that might be part of the problem.

My computer had been running slow lately. BAD slow. So I began cursing the stupid ballistix ram yet again….. then I noticed windows only reported 1gb of ram….. Uh oh, there’s TWO gigs in the machine!

Turns out one stick was just hanging there. D’OH! Stupid me.

Now I remember why I don’t get paid for 3d work.

I recently installed 3ds max 9, and boy have things changed over the years. It’s not as onery to get installed for one, and the whole underlying system had been reworked. But some things stay the same, I get frustrated. Since I’ve never properly “learned” the program I can’t really do what I want to do. And I get frustrated with the whole thing.
Add to that ameretto, a plugin for nvidia’s gelato GPU rendering system. It works, but without textures and it crashes hard on hair systems. It’s so much faster to use that I want to use it damnit!
